Ibrus Wine Bar
A welcome new addition to the Old City scene, The Ibrus Wine Club, as its name suggests, is really more of a wine tasting outfit with a decent kitchen than a restaurant in the traditional sense. Off the street, you descend into a subterranean world of 14th century tunnels and cleverly excavated pits and wells, visible through glass floors. Currently serving a good, if small, selection of Azeri wines from the Shamakha, Shirvan and Ismailli regions, this list is currently bolstered by imported wines, sold at a premium, as Azeri tastes demand. The longer term plan, however, is to expand the native and organic lists and, ultimately, be all Azeri, when tastes permit. Good luck to them, we say, and with an interesting and well-executed international menu and Azeri dishes also available by prior arrangement, supporting Ibrus is really no hardship at all.
