Joe’s Pub
A justifiably popular institution attached to the venerable Public Theater, Joe’s Pub – named for theatre legend Joseph Papp – is one of the cooler bars in New York, meticulously run, that showcases an extensive cross-section of jazz, cabaret, and comedy performance. While sitting rapt as any number of virtuosi vie for adoration, audience members delight at the comfy velvet seating and subtle, sleek flourishes, and pore over a clever cocktail list and bar menu. A Huckleberry Martini marries huckleberry-infused vodka with lime, pomegranate juice, and ginger ale, while port wine and champagne commingle to create the Lady Macbeth. There is a $12 food minimum per person if snacking, and eats range from rustic panini to ample meatballs, burgers, pastas, and fish.
