Hg2 : The Hedonist

Bringing Austrian flair to her popular Berlin restaurant Jolesch, charismatic owner Edith Berlinger opened this opulent local eatery in 1993. The name, taken from Friedrich Thorberg’s novel ‘Aunt Jolesch’, is where the fairytale appeal begins. Coffee and breakfast are taken in a small salon, from which adjoining wooden doors lead into a large banquet room, more popular in the evening. Large gilt-framed works of art and an ornate chandelier add a nobility to the surroundings. Jolesch appeals to a diverse crowd; you’ll find old men studying crumpled newspapers over a cappuccino while young, more animated couples explore the extensive wine list (with over 150 bottles from Austria, Slovenia, Hungary and the Tyrol, a lengthy exercise). The owner’s eccentric charms and wonderful service ensures diners return time and time again. Being typically and traditionally Austrian the highlight of the menu is the fabulous, yes you’ve guessed it, Wiener Schnitzel.
