JW Marriott Juhu
When it comes to the pick of beach hotels in Mumbai, it doesn’t get much better than the JW Marriott Juhu. As the name suggests it is found on Juhu beach – where hot bhel puri is served up to even hotter Bollywood babes – star-gazers and stars alike flock to this hedonistic hangout. Expect severe rubber-necking at the Sunday buffets when wealthy families pack in to tuck into course upon course of international fare. Food is a little hit and miss, admittedly – Indian dishes are delicious, some of the Italian and European ones, not so.
The pool at the JW Marriott Juhu is striking with its Egyptian statuettes and direct access onto the beach (well, sort of: there is a security man to pass by but with all the rich and famous guests, they’d have it no other way). It’s certainly one of Mumbai’s best outdoor pools, and has a resort, rather than city feel.
The rooms are not too much to write home about – expect lots of marble in the bathrooms and comfy beds, but that’s about it – while service is ‘so so’ considering India’s exceedingly high standards.
