Kasbah

Despite being climatically and culturally a world apart from sun-baked North Africa, step into the Kasbah and this Moroccan restaurant in Berlin feels like you could be in the heart of Marrakech. Owner Driss Haggoud, himself born in Fez, was inspired to open the restaurant after paying a visit to Momo in London. Less exclusive than its Soho counterpart, Kasbah is popular with a fashionable crowd keen for a taste of far-flung cultures. Every effort has been taken to recreate the Moroccan experience, with all the furnishings imported directly from the motherland. Colourful silk cushions are scattered about the restaurant, with wooden screens providing ample seclusion. The only light in an otherwise cavernous interior, cascades from decorative glass lanterns. All the staff are from Morocco and gently encourage traditional dinner etiquette – including hand-washing with rose water before meals. For a truly authentic taste
