Perhaps the most alternative of the numerous bars in Berlin, Kater Holzig draws a young and lively crowd to every event it hosts. Be it concerts by up-and-coming German bands, mad illusionists or kooky art film showings, Kater Holzig’s vibe is always cool, and the people friendly and open. Entry is cheap, often including drinks, and Kater Holzig’s kitchen even provides a slap-up dinner from 7pm every evening (menu changes weekly – see website), making for an enjoyable and budget-friendly night out. On top of the variety of entertainment offered, from circus acts for the kids to drag shows probably not for the kids, Kater Holzig owns its very own riverside relaxation area. Open from 4pm Tues – Sat, the ‘Schnurrbad’ features a sauna, shower and outdoor fireplace, as well as a dedicated six-person team to massage away that hangover. Back at the venue, you can buy tickets for outdoor festivals and concerts, and, being the politically active centre that it is, you can create and sign petitions. One of the funnest and friendliest concert venues/bars in Berlin, Kater Holzig is bursting with culture and subtly pulsing with the undercurrent of activism.
