A large, elegant restaurant-club-bar, Kaufleuten is one of the most famous clubs in Zürich (at one point it was pretty much Zürich’s only club), playing host to Madonna and Prince in its heyday. It has two separate club spaces, the Club and the Festsaal, which host a range of parties, concerts and cultural events.
On most given nights they are the preserve of Zürich’s jeunesse dorée, with an emphasis on the jeune, but Zürich’s most knowledgeable clubbers make a point of attending the monthly Purple residency, organised by Purple Music’s Jamie Lewis, the Disco parties in the Festsaal and the Use it on Friday parties in the Club. Go on these nights and you’ll find a good-looking, fashionable crowd of all ages partying like there’s no tomorrow.
With a theatre-style interior, the club spaces have a good dose of the dramatic about them, with stylish red drapes framing the walls. There are a few VIP tables around the edge of the room, with all the action focus on the dance floor. Kaufleuten is also a renowned live music venue, attracting the likes of Mark Ronson, so check their online program for the line up.
