Kavkazskaya Plennitsa, or ‘Caucasian Prisoner’, is named after Russia’s most famous film and is one of Moscow’s most successful themed restaurants, serving the best Georgian food this side of the Caucasus.
rnAn extensive menu makes wide use of local produce such as walnuts, pomegranates and coriander, and the portions are generous. The shashlyk – beautifully flavoured barbecued meat – is superb, or if you’re super-hungry and feeling adventurous, the buffet allows you to sample a little bit of everything.
rnThe sound system plays Soviet classics from the 1960s and ’70s, while an old-fashioned TV plays the cult Soviet movie silently throughout; there’s also live music every evening.
rnThe colourful and cheerful decor includes stills from the film and one of the tables has all the stars ‘a la Madame Tussaud’s’ sitting around a table, eating a meal.rn
