Opened in 1999 by the Shangri-La chain, the Kerry Centre hotel is the CEO’s bastion in the capital’s Central Business District. Despite being one of the first hotels in the area it hasn’t started to show its age yet and it is a favorite with foreign businessmen for short and long-term stays. The décor of the 487 guestrooms is inoffensive executive chic with a few intimate Chinese touches and a few unique ones; for example catering to the technophobe businessmen, there is a 24-hour IT butler on call. Jetsetters can be found congregating at the Centro Bar & Lounge on the first floor between meetings and quaffing award-winning cocktails. Local ex-pats also come here to use the gym with basketball, squash and tennis courts, which are still often elusive in the capital. Its café, Bento & Berries, is a popular quick business lunch spot and its shopping arcade has several notable tailors as well as a Citibank. For those traveling with children there is also a playground and kiddies’ pool.
