Kill Your Idol
The downmarket kitschy Kill Your Idol, tucked away on the non-touristy eastern end arm of Espanola, has the charm of your downstairs rec room circa 1995, but here, it’s all the more enjoyable for it. Decorated in record covers and ephemera from movies and pop culture (Bruce Lee sticks straight out from the back bar wall!), the dive offers a low-pressure way to blow off – show up to drink alone or socialize with a group, no one will pay you any mind.
There’s a small loft area for privacy, and some serviceable pub grub courtesy of The Alibi next door. KYI is a bit strange and unpredictable, totally anti-South Beach in its aesthetic (think of it as the east side Purdy Lounge). You can down your choice of rum cocktails, craft beers, PBRs and/or $2 jello shots, which are never found in combination in one location (ever).
