King Taco
The original is a cramped spot on Cypress Blvd in Glassell Park, but the jewel in the King’s crown is the number two location, which is a 24-hour tribute to the glory of the best tacos in Los Angeles. Mayor Anthony Villaragosa brought Senator Hillary Clinton here during her campaign for president, which gives some sense of the place’s credentials. This location is notable in particular for its inside mural, which is not as good as the food, and for the taco trucks that sit in the parking lot to serve the overflow who come for some of the best carne asada, carnitas, and al pastor tacos you can find. It’s not all perfect – please skip the gooey nachos – but it’s mostly sublime. Not bad for an operation that started in the mid-70s out of a converted ice cream truck.
