Kiru
Forget avocado toast and poached eggs — our favourite brunch is sushi-based (if the indulgent example at Kiru is anything to go by).
After all, this is a sushi restaurant with calibre. The dining room? Elegant, airy, and splashed with vivid murals. The chef? One Taiji Maruyama, who logged nine years at Nobu before striking out on his own. The location? Down a quiet side street in Chelsea, ideally situated to attract the area’s expensively dressed, perfectly coiffed set.
And then there’s the brunch menu. While Kiru is surely just as lovely after dark, it seems foolish not to take advantage of this five-course, bottomless feast.
After you’ve made your choice of limitless sake, Prosecco, or white wine, begin with plates of delicate white fish sashimi drizzled in truffle-infused ponzu before serving yourself from overflowing platters of nigiri and sushi rolls. Then there are pork buns to scarf, edamame pods to nibble, main dishes like salmon teriyaki to sample, and fruity sorbets to cleanse the palate. All told, this several-hour sushi extravaganza has to be among the best ways you can start your day in London.
