Hg2 : The Hedonist

Kitima is a top choice, and one of the funkiest places to eat in Cape Town, regardless of where you’re based. Quartered within a brilliantly renovated national monument called Kronendal-a supposedly haunted 18th-century Cape Dutch manor house-this stylish yet unpretentious restaurant is forever brimming with Mother City socialites and a mixed, gregarious crowd that knows how to have a good time. And a good time is exactly what’s provided, in a provocative and exciting space that’s a heck of a lot more theatrical than most dining spaces in the city, the opulent mix of wallpapers, fabrics, and good-looking furniture striking a good balance between aesthetic joie de vivre and a bottom-line concern for your comfort. There’s an extensive selection of Asian dishes, incorporating Chinese, Vietnamese and sushi along with Thai specialities, all good enough to warrant making a reservation. Kick off the night in the gold and pink Raya Lounge (see Drink) before being escorted to your particular dining venue. There are several rooms, each done up in a distinctive style that avoids clichéd period designs, where you’ll be taken care of by some of the best serving staff in town.
