This is one of the favourite fish restaurants in Istanbul and you can see why. Körfez (gulf) is in the beautiful Asian Bosphorus village of Kanlica, just opposite the imposing castle of Rumeli Hisar.
There, outside the fabulous and surreal Edwards of Hisar, a gentleman’s tailors that appears to have walked out of a page of Jeeves and Wooster, Körfez’s motorboat will pick you up and ferry you across the Bosphorus. Once at the restaurant you can enjoy the view from the splendid riverside garden.
The fish is seasonal and excellent – sea bass baked in salt is the famous house dish. It’s a simple formula but it works, drawing people to the restaurant from across the city. Körfez is a good choice if you fancy a small adventure and want to impress someone, or indeed yourself. Reservations are essential.
