Ksar Char-Bagh’s restaurant is a masterpiece and undoubtedly one of the finest restaurants in Marrakech. Each day young French chef Damien Durand, who studied under Robuchon, Ducasse and Herme, creates a superb menu based on fresh market ingredients and produce from the extensive orchard and garden that has been created behind the hotel’s swimming pool (the plan is to create an organic pantry for the restaurant).
Lunch is a simple three-course set menu while dinner is usually more extravagant – not à la carte as such, but with normally at least two choices of starters, mains and desserts (Friday night is oriental night).
In general Durand serves up what is hands-down the best food in Marrakech; coupled with the setting – a magnificent high-ceilinged dining room with a vivid black-and-white colour scheme – and impeccably efficient waiter service, the experience can be somewhat unreal, certainly unforgettable. Expensive, but worth it. Booking is essential.
