Kung Fu Kitchen
The tiny blue pinlights wrapped around the palms make Kung Fu Kitchen a disarmingly attractive Miami restaurant at night. Kung Fu Kitchen doesn’t show quite as well during the day – much like the majority of the club kids that stop by on their way to Louis – but it’s not for lack of trying, and the orange table umbrellas are eye-catching, to say the least. Any item from the full roster of all-over-the-map Asian plates (such as Korean short ribs and Hong Kong steak with shrimp chips) can be had for $20 or less, and a few snappy house maki rolls share the card with more familiar dishes. Saturday’s Forbidden City burlesque dinner-show rocks, and Friday’s Asian BBQ special is also a winner. However, make sure to bring your patience; despite the layout of the restaurant’s outdoor space – an arm’s length from the sidewalk and the equivalent of a bouncer’s width from the Maybachs crawling down Collins – Kung Fu Kitchen is frequently full by 10pm or so. If so, slide over to the Catalina’s other canteen, Maxine’s.
