La Bodegueta

Although not the chicest or the most sophisticated of restaurants in Barcelona, La Bodegueta is a must for spectacular, traditional Spanish tapas. The Iberian ham, the anchovies drizzled in oil, the hot pedronas chillies – all can be enjoyed amidst the wooden tables and simple Spanish interior of this delightful underground restaurant. It’s not terribly easy to find – a simple doorway leading down a flight of stairs on the corner of Rambla de Catalunya is your only guide but, if you go in the summer months, keep an eye of for its crowded tables in the square opposite – it’s never quiet and you’ll need to be prepared to order a drink and wait some time because its popularity means it’s generally heaving. The staff are quintessentially Catalan, quite brusque and quick to let you know if you’re standing in their way but this only adds to the experience of La Bodegueta.
