La Folie

Chef Roland Passot knows a thing or two about luxury, as one of the most legendary restaurants in San Francisco and his brainchild, La Folie, has been serving the creme de la creme of French cuisine to a well-heeled set of Russian Hill regulars for years. Despite the restaurant’s rich history, the restaurant doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Sophisticated ladies and gents come here for subdued dinners in a gold-hued dining room, elegantly nibbling on the likes of barbecued squab with a foie gras torchon, butter-poached lobster served on a butternut squash ravioli, and pancetta-wrapped venison loin with apple-and-pear confit. If you’re going to La Folie, you may as well splurge on one of the many pricey Bordeaux on the list; after all, why not live la vie to its fullest? Chef-owner Roland Passot knows a thing or two about French cuisine, and as such, La Folie has been a classic destination for engagement and anniversary dinners for years. Hushed diners linger for hours in an elegant dining room draped in warm shades of gold and red. Don’t expect to see young whippersnappers here: This Russian Hill institution draws an older, more sophisticated crowd that knows a thing or two about good food and wine. Even carnivores can delight in Passot’s “jardiniere” menu, which features incredibly flavourful preparations of meatless dishes.
