Hg2 : The Hedonist

La Gazzetta

Residents of the Bastille area are delighted with this neighbourhood bistro, which offers something a little different, thanks to the Swedish chef’s melding of influences from all over France with Scandinavian herbs and potato dishes. The thirtysomething regulars approve of the streamlined art deco stylings, the dim lighting and the breadth of the short wine list, which visits the Baleares, Corsica, Italy and Spain, even Lebanon. La Gazzetta is low on formality and high on democratic cool; in its quiet way, it’s one of the restaurants revolutionising French dining. The lunch formule at 16 Euro is a ‘bistronomic’ bargain, offering tapas-sized appetisers, as well as a starter and a main; but the real action’s at dinner; come with a group, so you can try one another’s petit pois and ricotta ravioli, and roast pigeon with smoked aubergine and raw and cooked cauliflower.
