This sophisticated café chain has a few other branches around the capital, but the one in Downtown, La Maison du Café Najjar, is probably the best of the coffeeshops in Beirut. La Maison du Café Najjar is chic and comfortable, with plenty of tables both inside and out. The Najjar family, purveyors of the local coffee brand café Najjar, are the driving force behind this stylish venue and it’s abundantly clear that they take their business very seriously.
The result is that every kind of coffee under the sun is available here (well, 50 in fact), including a wide range of authentic Arabic flavours. Offering light snacks and some good pastries, La Maison is set back from the more crowded Maarad Street, and is consequently much calmer. Because of its location and its marketing as high-end, La Maison is a touch more expensive than other cafés in the area, but you’ll be happy to shoulder the extra expense to get away from the hurly burly of downtown.
