La Poule au Pot

La Poule au Pot is quintessential Parisian bistro. This little French restaurant in Les Halles serves everything from snails and fried Camembert to steak tartare and duck confit – there are no real surprises on the menu. But what would you expect from a bistro that has been in operation since 1935, and is adorned with the names of those who have visited in the past 80 or so years – from the Beatles and Frank Sinatra, to Francis Ford Coppola.

The decor is what you might expect from an ‘establishment’ bistro, large mirrors reflecting the room, brushed brass fittings and deep leather banquettes to settle into. Edith Piaf wafts over the speakers to complete the stereotype.

The regular clientele come for the food – simple and well-cooked, but many come to try the special ‘chicken in a pot’ – a whole chicken, stuffed and then cooked in, well, a pot.
