Prices may be astronomical but La Rosetta is one of the restaurants in Rome where quality and presentation are faultless, the service is exemplary without being snooty, and wine aficionados will delight at the extensive list of French and Italian wines. In business since 1966, the twinkly-eyed Massimo is now known as the seafood ‘guru’ of Rome. Lunch is a more affordable option for the impecunious, with an excellent degustazione (tasting) menu. The atmosphere is formal and rarefied, with lots of rich American Grand Tourists, businessmen and personal friends of Massimo who – of course, darling! – order off menu. Try not to miss the home-made desserts, or the fish soup.
