An unpretentious treasure whose prosperity has risen with its adoption by a trendy crowd, Le Café is an impeccably hip, old-school spot to stop for a breather in the gentrified Montorgueil district. The few pavement tables are particularly prized. The owner is a well-travelled gent, and the colonial-style interior is decorated with bits and bobs from around the world, as well as globes, maps and tatty travel posters. Light salads, tartines and croques monsieurs (really good ones, made with a choice of breads) are on offer by day; at the weekend, come nightfall, house and electro music begins to throb, and the scene spills out onto the street.
