Le Colonial evokes Southeast Asia of the early 20th century, one of many Asian restaurants in San Francisco, but with white pillars, plantation shutters, palms, ceiling fans, and white linen suits, this one reflects the days when Ho Chi Minh City was a sweltering paradise called Saigon. It stands on hallowed ground, having taken over where the infamous Trader Vic’s left off. Le Colonial has lived up to the legacy. The French-Vietnamese fusion food is excellent, and the scene is energetic, one might even say sexy. Although not the sizzling spot it once was, a nightcap at Le Colonial can still produce connections with the young and hot.
