Club, bar, concert venue and art space, Le Divan du Monde is all about cultural cross-pollination, putting on regular nights where video, dance, short films and DJ sets meet experimentally and enthusiastically. The interior is a strange mix of cosy and creative, with its arty fittings and old-school/organic design. From 11pm onwards, the main space is usually closed, and the upstairs bar, technically called Le Divan Japonais, fills up with Montmartre folk who’ve come to kick back with friends to the sound of glitchy electronica. Once or twice a week, the two floors come alive simultaneously, to create a club for 500 people; the baroque decor of the theatre and the more modern balcony area work well together. The music policy adventures beyond the electro du jour, with gypsy, rai and punk all getting a look in.
