Le Fer à Cheval

Once the home of the village blacksmith (hence the name – the horseshoe), Le Fer à Cheval has left its blue-collar roots behind and is now counted among the most prestigious hotels in Megeve, a four-star spot which houses 56 rooms and suites. Inside guests are greeted by an impressive double-height reception and sitting room; the bare, broad-planked walls are decorated with the heads of some local deer. The rooms take a more modern approach than most – with classic contemporary furniture juxtaposing with the wooden ceilings and walls. Of the hotel’s two in-house restaurants one serves gourmet locally-sourced produce, while the other, L’Alpe, serves robust local cooking – tartiflettes, fondues, raclettes. The bar has a roaring fire and long, deep sofas and for the warmer summer months there is an outdoor terrace to soak up the sun. A fitness centre with Decléor spa treatments and a swimming pool round off Le Fer à Cheval’s offering and its location, right in the middle of Megève, make it slightly more affordable than some of the resort’s other budget busting options.
