Le Pré Lenôtre
Beijing has gone a little crazy lately for high-end French restaurants and Le Pré Lenôtre may take the cake for opulence. Which is, after all, what Marie Antoinette said we should be eating. This intimate restaurant, which seats only 40 guests, is decorated in muted charcoals and silvers including Louis XV style dining chairs. The luxurious furnishings are meant to recall some Marquis’ countryside château en province. Traditional French dishes such as roasted rack of lamb and veal fricassee are featured as is Wagyu beef à la façon Rossini (named after the Italian composer). Les douceurs – or, sweets – include a piping hot pomme confit served with lemon yogurt ice cream. Eating à la carte may have your bank manager sending you to Madame Guillotine but the more than reasonable Menu Découverte du Pré at RMB 388 is four delicious courses of the restaurant’s highlights.
