Hg2 : The Hedonist

Le Renaissance

Owned by the Charkos family, who also run Baroque Bistro a few blocks nearby, La Renaissance, one of the more charming patisserie cafés in Sydney, is set inside a historic sandstone building and carries on the legacy of the late family patriarch, Parisian-born chef Pierre Charkos. Valrhona chocolate is used exclusively in all the cakes and pastries here, and as well as éclairs, tarts and towering crocembouche, the patisserie has a sweet little garden courtyard to the rear, where you can sup brilliant coffee and order from the lunch menu, which features homemade meat pies, quicheaand tasty baguettes. Prepare to queue in the morning – this place makes a mean macchiato, and locals know it.
