Le Rendezvous des Amis
Sacré Coeur may be the ultimate tourist-smothered honeypot, yet the streets only moments down to the west of the basilica make for a much cooler kind of day out – fashion and food retail, rather than Toulouse-Lautrec posters. It’s nonetheless surprising to find this appealingly studenty corner café-bar directly beneath the city’s bustliest attraction.
It was, as the name suggests, set up by a group of pals, whose extended social circle eat, drink and chat here. The day-to-day clientele tends to be either very young or very old; those who drink here are touristic passersby or diehard regulars, of whom the bar is festooned with photographs.
Cheese and charcuterie is available; the wine’s good; and there’s occasional live music in the back room. As we go to press the management is to change but, hopefully, this good-value, friendly little pitstop will remain warm and welcoming.
