Le Rouge
The owners of Le Rouge have a good track record, having previously made great successes of Kungsholmen (see Restaurants), Fredsgatan 12 (see Restaurants) and several other restaurants. Their newest venture is perhaps their most opulent, looking like something from fin de siècle Paris: a 125-seat cellar restaurant that’s adorned with an abundance of scarlet fabric and with seats upholstered in rich red velvet. It’s all very Moulin Rouge, with a decadent French menu to match. There’s also Le Bar Rouge, where you can have lunch or drop in for cocktails. (Note that the bar opens onto Österlånggatan while the restaurant is reached from Brunnsgränd, around the corner.) Too many Stockholm restaurants opt for modern Swedish minimalism, with white walls and an absence of ornamentation. Le Rouge triumphs by daring to be richer, redder and a lot more fun.
