Although there are certainly more centrally-located hotels in Mumbai – this one’s near the airport – you could do worse than to check in to the five-star Leela Kempinksi. The lobby is impressive, to say the least, with vases stuffed with colourful flowers and a reception desk manned by a charming staff.
The hotel itself is set in meticulously-manicured gardens that are perfect for a quick morning jog before flopping out under large cream umbrellas with views of lily pad-filled fountains and carefully-tended lawns. International businessmen gather in the lobby lounge and the bar located next to it, where guests can dig into freshly-fried pakodas or indulge in good old-fashioned petit fours and kathi kebabs.
The shops on the lower floor, close to the The Spa, offer a wealth of traditional gifts to take home, but be warned that any interest will be met with friendly, if over-enthusiastic sales pitches from keen shopkeepers. Meanwhile, the Spa offers an excellent range of ESPA treatments in sleek surroundings and the nightclub draws partygoers from all over the city come the weekend.
