Liberty Café/El Patio
Each of the different venues, the Liberty Café, Caffe and El Patio all share a charmingly dishevelled aesthetic, but each has its own particular personality to distinguish them from each other and from the other cafés in Bogotá. Liberty is very romantic with red velvet sofas, white flowers, candles and old books scattered throughout. Old black-and-white photos of glamorous women hang beside sumptuous drapes, and a 50s-style silver dish filled with oversized lollipops greets you upon entrance. Indeed, it’s the perfect place for an amaretto coffee and a well-deserved crème brulee. Next door, Caffe is slightly more shambolic, with different coloured tablecloths, wooden chairs and faded photos propped around the room. Everything is mismatched so customers feel as though they’re in the home of a fascinating eccentric. Finally, El Patio is more of a restaurant than the other two, with superb filet mignon and an inspiring menu of always-brilliant Italian fare. The table cloths are made of tapestry, and both the old wooden chairs and simple food are very rustic. The motto of El Patio is ‘es su casa’ (it’s your house), and you’ll be welcomed accordingly. Brimming with locals, this three-in-one wonder is a home-away-from-home for cool creative types.
