The Jumeirah Jane is a remarkable breed. Better groomed than their Brit counterpart, the Sloane, and with a deeper tan than their Park Avenue Princess sisters, they single-handedly keep the Beach Road’s beauty salons in business and the Lime Tree in eye candy. Small dogs, big sunglasses and huge blow-dries are de rigeur on weekdays, but come the weekend, this two-floor villa-cum-café is where Dubai’s under-30s come to dissect the night before. It’s best to hunt in pairs at peak times here – split up and send one to stalk that sought-after, shaded table on the upstairs terrace while the other stands in the always epic (but usually fast-moving) queue. Choose from a huge English breakfast (served until 1pm at the weekend) that’s as good as a porkless fry-up can be or try the lighter lunch fare – salads, quiche, sandwiches and frittata – that’s laid out in front of you behind a glass counter. Go for the carrot cake – it’s attained near-cult status.
