Lowe Museum
The Lowe is the University of Miami’s art museum. Having opened in 1952 to become the first stand-alone art museum in Southern Florida, the Lowe is now the most important museum in the state.
The collection, now numbering around 13,000 pieces, draws pieces from ancient Rome and Greece, Native American and Asian art, Latin America,Africa, classical European painting, 19th century American art, photography and the contemporary and modern.
This eclectic mix is continually expanding and is complemented by continually changing temporary exhibits. The Lowe has been lucky to attract the support of the wealthier residents of Miami, whose generosity has allowed the museum to thrive and grow for the enjoyment and education of the local population and the university students.
