Hg2 : The Hedonist

Created by Italian food lover Luca Manissero and Japanese chef Massa Hiro, Luca restaurant quickly became one of Lisbon’s busiest and trendiest eateries upon its opening in September 2004. Recently hailed by a few influential food critics as the city’s best restaurant, the swanky spot, lodged in an old radiators factory, features a menu packed with an array of intriguing suggestions.

The cuisine, of Italian, Oriental and North African inspiration, could be described as fusion, pairing such offerings as tart tatin of chargrilled scallops and the codfish ravioli in a broth of parmesan cheese, black bork and bhrimp with the open lasagna of Tallegio cheese with herb butter, tomato confit, anchovy dressing and celery cream. The ingredients are as fresh as they come and Luca’s cuisine is quite simply a festival of engaging aromas and textures, ready to be savoured against a backdrop of modern and inspired decoration.

The Tapas Bar, which opened in April 2006, is draped in Moroccan motifs. It sits in separate premises, on the street behind Luca. Call at least two days in advance if you want a table for a Friday or Saturday as it is normally fully booked the day before.
