Hg2 : The Hedonist

At L’Unita, one of the liveliest Italian restaurants in Toronto, it’s about rustic home cooking and a rowdy scene, like a dinner party where you don’t do the dishes. Italian movie posters adorn bare-brick walls (Sophia Loren looking especially sultry by candlelight) and the already pervading romantic ambience is intensified in a lover’s lane of cosy two-seat tables.

A hangout bar is another good spot to eat the slow-movement, seasonal food and peruse the exceptional Italian wine list. The obligatory salumis, handmade pastas and pizzas are well supported by starters of zucchini flowers or sardine crostini with unfussy mains like dolomiti-braised ribs with red onion marmellata.

Don’t leave without dessert: think mascarpone cannoli, ricotta frittelle, biscotti, gelati et al.
