Lux occupies a listed red-brick building that once served as the canteen for Electrolux, hence the restaurant’s name. Don’t be put off by its location: Lilla Essingen is a small island close to Kungsholmen that’s easily reached by bus, taxi or even on foot if you fancy a pleasant stroll. However you get there, it’s worth the effort.
The chef-owners, Henrik Norström and Peter Johansson, describe the food as being based on traditional Swedish cuisine but inspired by their travels. The result feels modern, inventive and, needless to say, utterly delicious.
The room is very Scandinavian in appearance: modern, unpretentious, simple. In the summer be sure to request a table outside on the terrace, which has marvellous views over the water. Afterwards you can pop into Lux Dessert och Choklad, a little jewel box of a shop close to the restaurant that sells Lux’s breads, chocolate and ready-made desserts.
