Madame Tussaud’s
If you’ve not already rubbed shoulders with a celeb in one of Vegas’ clubs or casinos, then Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum should be on your list of places to visit in Vegas. This waxworks collection, located on the second and third floors of the Venetian’s replica of the St. Mark’s Library building, is the tenth in the family of Tussaud wax museums, which originally opened in London in 1835, and the only Tussaud outpost west of the Mississippi. The two-storey museum cost $20-million to assemble and features 100 wax statues, each of which took six months and up to $40,000 to create. Along with featuring popular entertainment and sports figures, like Liz Taylor and Brad Pitt, this branch gives a nod to its surroundings, featuring some decidedly Las Vegas personalities, including gangster and hotelier Bugsy Siegel, Frank Sinatra, Wayne Newton, Tom Jones and Liberace. All are freestanding, so you’re free to wander up and pose for a picture. There’s also a cool behind-the-scenes look at how the wax figures are crafted. An excellent way to spend half an hour.
