Hg2 : The Hedonist

Made In Camden

Expectations for in-house restaurants in London at live music venues are naturally low; after all, rock stars live off a diet of Coca-Cola and cigarettes, don’t they? But all preconceptions immediately dissolved as we stepped off the street and into the warm, welcoming space through the restaurant’s own entrance; decked out in warm chestnut browns and rich reds, the Michael Sodeau-designed interiors are clean, simple and informal. Just the kind of atmosphere you want pre- or post-gig. Sitting by floor-to-ceiling windows, we perused the dishes on offer; head chef Josh Katz is bang on-trend with a menu of mouthwatering sharing plates, all of which draw on influences from France and the Med. With a recommended three plates per person, we indulged in a total of six and that was more than enough for any one decadent dinner; highlights included the Crisp Pork Belly, Chargrilled Scallops and Seared Onglet, all washed down with a bottle of rich, velvety rioja. With eyes significantly bigger than our bellies (such is hedonism), we wrapped things up with the lusciously light and zesty Lemon and Yoghurt Pannacotta. More than just somewhere to grab a quick bite while you wait, Made in Camden offers a real stand-alone culinary experience that will have foodies flocking through the door whether they’ve got tickets for next door or not. And now we’ve got another reason to venture to Camden, too.
