Yet another reliable Japanese, Mado is sister restaurant to Penjere and Finestra and has spent the past two and a half years
carving out a niche and solid reputation among the business crowds and ex-pats of the Nasimi area. Indeed, it is always a good sign to see the odd Japanese face among the ex-pat regulars and that is testament to the Filipino-born, Japanese-trained chef ‘s evident skill. The menu offers a good selection of all the usual fare and, less usual, including ostrich teppanyaki, which I think one can confidently assume is not available anywhere else in Baku or, indeed, elsewhere in the Caucasus. The interior is pleasantly decorated, if perhaps a little sparse, and the service warm, welcoming and friendly. One stand-out dish on the reliable menu has to be the gyoza – extremely tasty and worryingly moreish!
