Maison de la Photographie
This small photography museum located a few doors down from Le Foundouk restaurant in the medina boasts an enviable collection of Moroccan photographs – mostly people and places – that date back to the 1860s. The photographs were culled from private collections in France by two collectors eager to bring back memories of Morocco and contribute to cultural tourism in Marrakesh. Spread over three floors, it’s a pleasant, airy space set in an old house (part of an old Foundouk) and later used by private merchants from Fez. In the TV room visitors can see old documentaries and films on Morocco and there’s a small cafe at the top of the building that provides refreshments and a “plat du jour” for visitors – as well as great views over the city. Enthusiasts might also want to check out the related Eco Berber Museum in Tafza on the Route de l’ Ourika, which is dedicated to the Atlas and Berber culture.
