Mama Campo
Seasonal, ethical, organic, colourful–Mama Campo is all these things and more. In fact, Mama Campo is not just one venue. Found in the Plaza de Olavide area, Mama Campo encompasses a restaurant, a cantina, and a space entirely devoted to encouraging kids to eat healthily (“La Cocinita” is not a bad spot to visit if you’re travelling with the family in tow). Furthermore, a short stroll will bring you to No. 22 Trafalgar Street where you can peruse the stylishly, seasonally stocked shelves of the Mama Campo shop.
The Mama Campo restaurant is a rustic, yet contemporary space, which throws together natural materials and pops of bright colour with curiously harmonic effect. The walls are patched with art, the floors are wood and tiles, and the furniture doesn’t exactly match. And it’s all eco-friendly, as are all the offerings on the menu. Sourced from certified organic farmers, the food here not only tastes good, but is good; for the environment, for the farmers, and – surprisingly – for the wallet, to boot.
The restaurant serves delicious meals from lunch through to dinner, while the Mama Campo Cantina, a striking all-white space, is the place for snacks and tapas. The interiors here are pretty eye-catching; what the venue lacks in colour, it makes up for in stylish chaos, with artfully arranged pieces of furniture adhered to the ceiling. It’s a kind of mad hatter’s tea party vibe, but with mouthwatering, ethical cuisine and a relaxed vibe that no amount of enthusiastically rushing through the delicious dishes will alter.
