Marché Saint Pierre
It’s no surprise that Paris, one of the world’s fashion capitals, is home to some high-quality fabrics. France is known for its Chantilly lace, but this shopping district is where couturiers and amateur craftsmen alike go for the finest in local and imported silk, duchesse satin and tulle. The area takes its name from the Marché Saint Pierre, a multi-level emporium of fabric commonly known as Dreyfuss (one of its founding families). Though this is the prime shop in the shopping area, many other textile stores have grown within the vicinity. Located at the base of the Sacré Coeur, Tissus Reine is worth a stop-off for more expensive and luxurious materials whilst Moline is renowned for its haberdashery expertise. Without question, the display of colour and texture is worth a wander for passers-by as well as professionals, as the marketplace is an experience of the real Paris and an insight into one of its biggest industries.
