Maropeng
The Maropeng visitor centre has won numerous awards for its informative, accessible and interactive exhibits. Situated in the Cradle of Mankind, the museum’s aim is to inform visitors about the development of the humankind over the past few million years. It only takes an hour to get here from Sandton, and it really is worth a visit. A joint admission can also be purchased for the Sterkfontein Caves. These incredible caverns provided archaeologists with some groundbreaking discoveries, including 2 million year old tools and the famous fossils of ‘Mrs Ples’ and ‘Little Foot’. Recently, the centre has also added an underground boat ride. This sensory journey will guide you back through the development of the Earth from the last ice age right back to the ‘Big Bang’.
