Matilda
True to Matilda’s name, there’s something delightfully feminine about this stylish fusion restaurant in Madrid, which is tucked away alongside some of the most exclusive shops in a pretty little side street. It’s cool and modern, but the pink and purple furnishings and table settings, single-stem flowers in glass vases and brightly coloured luminous panel of photographs by Robert Garver give it a warmth and cosiness that could only be achieved with a woman’s touch.
Indeed, Matilda was designed by one of the restaurant’s owners, Dana Galiana, who has won acclaim in the design world for her unique style. Tilted mirrors make this miniature restaurant (a former coach house) appear more spacious, and it almost doubles in size in the summer when you can reserve a table on a small garden terrace out the front. The food is described as ‘modern fusion’ and more than pleases the fashionable Serrano crowd. A great place for lunch on a summer’s day or for a romantic dinner year-round.
