Although technically a live music venue, MatrixFillmore is one San Francisco club where it’s really more about cruising Marina singles than listening to good tunes. But it’s not quite the hotspot that it was back in the ’60s, when the original Matrix hosted rock stars like Janis Joplin, the Doors and the Grateful Dead. The current incarnation boasts contemporary décor and is just the right size – big enough to offer an appetising variety of prospects to cruise, and yet small enough to be comfortable, inviting and not intimidating. A yuppie power centre, the place fills to capacity and spills out the door with pleasure-seeking post-sorority girls and the thirty-something businessmen who love them. The party takes off on Thursday nights and flies high into the small hours of Sunday morning. This is a great place to meet people.
