Maxim Gorki Theatre
This smallest of Berlin’s state theatres presents a mixture of traditional and contemporary productions, with a good reputation for progressive Russian and Eastern European drama. Since 2006 the theatre has been directed by author/director Armin Petras, who focuses on new interpretations of classical and modern drama (Chekhov is a firm favourite here), and adaptations of novels and films. Plays are usually funny, thoughtful and innovative. A good place to catch next generation talent.
