Mississippi River Levee Path
Climb atop the Mississippi River Levee, perhaps the highest point in town, and you can see both the massive tankers floating by on one side and the roofs of houses on the other. The Mississippi River surrounds the city, but between the port facilities and the tall river levee, most people rarely catch a glimpse of the water – this is your chance. A wide paved path runs along the levee, with plenty of space for both bikers and pedestrians. The dog-friendly area not far from Audubon Park is perfect for an afternoon stroll. Serious athletes can follow the path all the way to Baton Rouge-eighty miles away.
