Old-school Western saloon meets sumptuous bordello: Monty Bar’s got undeniable style. Its dark wood, high sloped ceilings, vintage jukebox, and . . . wall-mounted stuffed buffalo head? manage to create an intimate vibe in an expansive setting, while DJs and wall-projected old movies add to atmosphere. Located in the vacated premises of a seedy topless bar on what was once a rough end of town and is now an up-and-coming locale, Monty Bar could rightly be called one of the best dive bars in LA. In lieu of a complex mixology program, drinks here are served straight-up and with little pretence (don’t hesitate to order a fuzzy navel if that’s what you’re after), and a tidy beer list features a few craft shout-outs while also sticking with classic divey cans.
