Mosaic Museum
Hidden away behind one end of the Arasta Bazaar, next to the Sultanahmet Mosque, is an unprepossessing building that houses a mosaic floor, part of the great Byzantine palace that once covered the area, a fragment of the city’s great ‘missing monument,’ and it’s one of the most charming places to see in Istanbul.rnrnThe mosaic depicts bucolic and mythological scenes as well as mesmerising vignettes showing animals ripping each other apart, revealing the Byzantine’s sophisticated sadistic side. rnrnIt’s well worth a quick visit to get a hint of what the area looked like a millennium-and-a-half ago.
